Special Annual Events
Throughout the year we hold special festivals and services at our church or in ecumenical events with other churches and synagogues. These events bring the church family or wider faith family together to have a wonderful time and give further meaning and depth to the year.
Our version of the traditional German and Pennsylvania Dutch Fastnacht Celebration (aka Carnival, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras and/or Fat Tuesday) packed into one Saturday! This year, we gathered on Saturday, February 22nd, beginning with a pork entree and covered dish meal at 5:30pm, and followed by some musical entertainment, trivia, and more!
This year, the members of Bethany displayed many different talents. During dinner, we were serenaded by Steve who played an array of German and German-inspired songs on the accordion. Then, accompanied by his wife, Steve & Diane (dressed in their traditional lederhosen and dirndl) performed a waltz & polka demonstration. We followed that with a sing-along of the Schnitzelbank Song. Jonathan, once again, regaled us with his wonderful, witty songs and a cheeky monologue which was a throwback to the simpler, more clever time of radio news. The Spiderettes, Joan, Marie, and Betty, performed a dance rendition of the Itsy Bitsy Spider that was upbeat and adorable. We also had a visit from the King himself, Elvis (a very funny Tom), and we also got to hear songs from the Cheney sisters, Emily & Ellen.
In all, over 60 people attended and it was wonderful to see you all! Let's do it again next year!
2020 Lenten Soup Suppers
Beginning on Ash Wednesday, the tri-boro of churches holds a weekly soup supper at various churches throughout Palmyra, Riverton, and Cinnaminson. Most dinners begin with an evening of soup, salad, and fellowship, followed by a service in the sanctuary of the host church.
Bethany will host on Wednesday, March 25th, beginning at 6:30 with dinner and 7:30 for the service.

Holy Week & Easter Celebration
Every year we look to have a "closer walk with Jesus" during Holy Week.
Men's Good Friday Breakfast:
Our church grandfathers, uncles, brothers, fathers, nephews, sons, and friends gather Good Friday morning to eat, enjoy some quality camaraderie, and hear the Good Friday story and a message from a special guest speaker. Bethany had its 2019 Men's Breakfast on April 19th at the Breakfast Nook Cafe at 7:30am. The speaker was Rev. Jeffrey Van Orden.
Good Friday Tenebrae Service:
For our Tenebrae Service, we reflect and remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for all sinners through his crucifixion. We commemorate that solemn occasion with a reading of the Stations of the Cross and the Good Friday story. Join us at 7pm for a moving, but reaffirming service.
Easter Breakfast & Service:
Every year we enjoy breakfast together to make the Easter celebration even more special. Beginning at 8:30am and ending at 9:45am, breakfast will be served downstairs in Gibson Hall. It will consist of egg souffles, breakfast meat, muffins, and some additional finger foods. It will be followed by our Easter Celebration Service at 10:15am.
Early each June, Bethany hosts a church picnic after our Sunday service. We close down Morgan Ave in front of the Miller House (right next door) and set up tables and chairs for a festive, fun, family style potluck BBQ.
The church supplies burgers and hot dogs that our grill masters cook to perfection and the church family brings everything from side dishes to desserts. There are also games for our Sunday School kids.
Bethany held its 2019 Church Picnic on Sunday, June 9th! A wonderful time was had by all!
Vacation Bible School
Typically the first or second week in August, our Vacation Bible School (VBS) is truly a service to our church family and local community that offers children, ages 4-12, an opportunity to immerse themselves in a Bible Adventure! Last year's theme was "Taking Root" and took a look at world hunger, showing the children what they could do to make a difference right here in Palmyra.
VBS is also a wonderful opportunity to volunteer your time, especially if you enjoy working with children. Volunteers from 9th to 99th grade are welcome! For more information, please contact Joan at
Thank you for a wonderful VBS 2019! Please check back in June for information about our VBS 2020!
Typically the first or second weekend in December, our pageant is a showcase for all of our members, regardless of age, to come together for a retelling of the birth of Christ. There's music, costumes, and the story that reassures us of God's Love every December. If interested in attending or participating, please contact our church office at 856-829-2373
We hold two services on Christmas Eve. One at 7pm which features our children's, young Bethany Voices, and adult choirs and one at 11pm that features our adult choir. Both run about an hour and encompass the joy, music, and celebration of Christ's Birth.
In 2018, the Bethany family celebrated the 80th year since our charter was signed. Prior to the creation of the charter, the building where Bethany is located today was a bank. Ironically, the bank went bankrupt and the rest, as they say, is history. Specifically, OUR history.
This year, we planned the 81st Celebration of Bethany for Sunday, October 6th, immediately following the 10:15 service.
We went downstairs to Gibson Hall for a fellowship celebration with cake and coffee.
